Do you have a price range for the cost to build your simple 960 square foot, 3 shipping container home? The only modification I would make is to leave the doors on it so they can be closed to secure the home. The middle door could face the opposite direction. The only windows and doors would be in the area where the shipping container door is. Cost range estimate please, I’m in the capital of Texas area. Security is a big deal especially in rural and under-populated Texas so I would want to be able to secure this home by closing the doors and this is a top reason why I consider shipping container homes.
I don’t really have a good idea of the cost. The problem is that I am seeing a great range of costs from different fabricators.
Hey George, Nice project with 3 containers! I have two containers at my property not too far from your location. About 3.5 hours east to NE Columbia SC area. I’d like to know why you stager the 3 containers? Seems like more cost and more cost for the foundation. I would like to start with the two containers and was wondering how much the design cost would be to design the home for local building standards w/ approved structural documents? May i ask where your 3 container house is being built and could I come a look at it or maybe help?
Jerry, the builder wanted to keep it at ground level. The cost for foundations was less than putting in the stairs and dealing with the second floor. The house is supposed to go in the area around Villa Rica, GA. Problem is that the cost of containers has gone up to ridiculous levels (if you can get them). They run about $7,000 each right now, normally they are $2,500. This project is on “hold” right now because of that.
